Show 1 Telegraphic Twaddle. Salt Lake City, Utah, . January 22, 1874. Editors Salt Lake Daily Herald; Uuder tlie bead, of latest .Eastern dispatches, in this morning's Hkkalt, we have the following: 1 ' "A rumor is again in circulation, tonight, to-night, that changes will soon occur in the Cabinet, and it is stated that Richardson will resign. Tlie report lacks official confirmation, and that, fact, with the additional knowledge that Richardson, as lute as yesterday, avowed that be entertained no intention inten-tion of resigning, lends us to render the ruiqor very doubtful." I would not make any complaint about your publishing such twaddle as this, hut lor tlie reason that you have published recently several such nonsensical telegraphic rumors, an furnished you by the agent at Washington, Wash-ington, of the Associated Press. I venture the opinion that if Western newspapers would employ a man ol ordinary common sense to furnish them the news, their readers would have more respect for the press. I also venture the opinion that if any enterprising photographer would embrace a favorable opportunity, and offer the picture of., this , Washington Solon for sale at a moderate price, he would realize immense profits. Thiup, in afUiclion, S. F. X. We sympathize with our afflicted correspondent; and ask him to weep with us, as we aro powerless in; the matter, except to "cut out" such interesting in-teresting items as that which he quotes. The dispatches are made up for the California Associated Press, and all the say that we have in the matter mat-ter is to pay our bill monthly for th information received. P.S. That Washington Solon announced an-nounced again yesterday that Richardson Rich-ardson wasn't qoing to resign, but we have withheld the information from our lelegriphiu columns, waiting lor a wntr.'.diction. |
