Show General Nathan Kim lull, Sur- 1 veyor General of Utah, on reading the item in Thursday morning's daily Herald relative to President Grant's c remark on the Republican paity uu- 1 loading, and his subsequent appointment appoint-ment of General McCook as Governor , of Colorado, considered that the II kr- . ALD's comment on the President's ap- ' pearing to do his share of unloading ( "by dumping down all the tilth at his command in the Western Territories" reflected somewhat on himself, ho being be-ing the latest appointment to office in Utah. In juatico to General Kimball . and to the Herald we assure him that ho was appointed and confirmed beforo President Grant was credited with any remark relative to "unloading;" "unload-ing;" that we had never heard a word concerning General Kimball that would lead to any reflection of the kind on him indeed, we have heard him always spoken of as an honorable gentleman that when tho Herald believes it has just grounds for attacking attack-ing an officer's public career it usually "goes for" that particular officer and nobody else; that the item in question referred to McCook, whoso record in Denver is simply infamous; and that had Territorial appointments in general gen-eral been more like the last one or two mado for Utah, there would never nev-er have been groundwork for any illusion illu-sion to official filth beiDg dumped in Utah and Idaho, or any of tho t-rn t-rn Territories. |
