Show THE BACK SALARY GRAB. The New York K-rhl publishes an interesting communication from "ashington, under date Aug. 2oth, on the "back pay steal." This article ar-ticle supplies, what has long been needed as matter of reference, a complete com-plete ollicial list of the U. S. Senators and .Representatives, and their position posi-tion in regard, to the "salary grab," as shown by the hooksof the Treasury Department. Notable, in the light of Senator O. V. Morton's stump speech at the opening of the Ohio Republican State convention, is the fact that in the list of eleven Senators who, up to August V-tli, had not drawn or otherwise disposal of their hack-pay, Morion's name stands prominent, associated with those of the pious Harlan, of Iowa, the reformer re-former C'ragiu, ot New Hampshire, and the spit-curl fop Conklin, of New-York. New-York. And yet on the l'"lh of August, Au-gust, Morton says alter Gov. Noycs tenderly informed the crowd that his friend felt a link: delicate ('.') on the back-pay subject "Well, I can say 1 have not taken it and never ex p Jet to,'' The admiring crowd didn't stop to iUC;tiun this equivocal answer, but with cries of "OikkI!" assured the immaculate, im-maculate, that they would vote for hint. He then, with more of the the no sophistry, entered into details how lie ami Senator I'rntt, his colleague, had agreed that they would not take their extra salaries, because they didn't Mieve in the iW. ye, And yet, at that moment, Morton's pay w.is sulject to his order on the looks of the Secretary of the Senate, while Piatt hail long since returned his Slil.e-O, and had been credited, therefor. To be sure Morton did ix-,a-:M the Secretary, on the l'-'th of Augu.-t, to deposit this cash in the Tinted States Treasury, but he knew very well, at the same time, that this rwtuest would amount to nothing, and he only made it because he lacked the courage of liutler, and yet knew that public opinion demanded its restoration by all who should expect to eoiuimie to feed, at the ''overtime nt ciib. 1U- will probably, hy-and-by, under protest, draw his back pay and refund it. No other course will prove satisfactory, ami at this late day even that will bring little credit. The puhlUhid lUt, given by the " i'AT-, shows sixteen Senators who actually refunded up to July l"th. eleven whose pay ,-tiii stands to their . order, and twenty-six who have pocketed, pock-eted, their quota. Of Representatives, thirty. jix are ercd.itet.1 with refunding, live hold their ba;k-p.iy subject to o:lcr, and two hundred have pocketed. pocket-ed.
