Show Unfortunate. It is with regret that we Icarn that our candidato for ohief justice of Utah that is, "if a vacuum should oeour" has got into trouble. Hon, V. R. Keithly, well knovrn as the author of Keithly's Pleadings and Practice, whom we nominated for tho benoh here "if a vacuum should occur" was arrested yesterday charged with certain little irregularities in matters monetary ; in fact, it sounded like embezzlement, and Bcomed to include the phrase grand larceny. Tho amount was sot forth at $120, and it is to bo hoped, if he did embezzle any such pitiful sum, that ho will bo convicted. Had it boon $120,-000, $120,-000, then wo could havo respected him; it woqld hive been a popular evidence of "deuoed smartness," and he would have been honored as a clever gentleman. Ho could have compromised compro-mised tho affair by paying baok half of tho money, aod tho other half ho might havo plaoed "whero it would do the most good," thus enabling him in a few years to buy a United States scn-atorship, scn-atorship, own a railroad lino or two, and bo one of tho great lights of tho country. But a pitiful hundred and twenty dollars I Faugh I Tho thiDg is beneath contempt, and deserves tho penitentiary. |
