Show Lithographic Stone. Mr. Wil liam Apperly has discovered what is held by experts to be a superior quality qual-ity of the stooe used for lithographic purposes. The stratum of rock is on a quarter section of land taken up by the gentleman about four and a half miles north of this city, beyond the hot springs on the way to Bountiful. It is soft, takes the required impression impres-sion easily, and is susceptible of the highest condition of polish with little labor. We aro not aware of aBy lithographic litho-graphic stone having been before discovered dis-covered in the United States. The best is obtained on the Danube, in Bavaria; but it has also been found in England, France, Silesia, the West Indies and Canada. It is composed of lime, clay and silioious earth, and is of various hues. The specimen Bhown us yesterday is of a pearl grey color, the kind generally used for chalk drawing and engravine; but appeared softer than those of the same oolor mostly in'nse, being apparently adapted adapt-ed for lettering and transfer. Should the stone, on further testing, meet expectation, ex-pectation, Mr. Apperly bos stiuok a good thing for tho country, and a , fortune for himself. |
