Show TiieGardnehFibeExtin (IUISUER Last night tho Gardner Fire Extinguisher Ex-tinguisher was tested on iho Sth ward square. A couplo of piles of barrels were prepared, ono comprising five or six, the other from fifteen to twenty. Shavings were planed in thorn, and the whole saturated wilh coal oil. The smaller pile of combustible material was first fired, aud when the blaze had got under good headway, the stream of chemically prepared water was turned on it and extinguished it in less than a minute. The large pile was then set firo to, but tho mass was not burning so fiercely as the fust pile, although it blazed up furiously, when the machine was brought into requisition, requisi-tion, and it extinguished the flames in a similar short fpaeo of time. No doubt waf tell by those who wilnessed the test, of iheetucicr.ey of the smaller machines to extinguish fires speedily iu iltcir incipient stages, while the larger machines, which aro moved on wheels, should bo equally valuable in cape of fires on o tarter scale. Some very iu'portaut improvements are claimed lor ibc.'C Extinguishers, which Mofsr.. Smith & Co., the agents, will take pleasure in explaining.
