Show Fire. Yesterday morning a fire broke out in a room up stairs, in the Eagle IIouso of Messrs Tcasdclifc Cc, occupied by Mr. Tiernan as an office, caused by a stove-pipe projecting through the roof winch wc think should bo prohibited by municipal ordinance ord-inance as a measure of public safety. Messrs. Teasdel & Co., who have their force of employes organized as a small fire brigade, and who keep water stored at the top of the building for such a contingency, were mainly instrumental in-strumental id extinguishing it in a few mioutcs. On the alarm being sounded the firo department acted with a degree of promptness that deserves the highest commendation, as in the case of the morning previous. In leu minutes from the sounding of the alarm, thirty-two thirty-two men of tho Fionccr CDgine company com-pany were out, had the steamer to the tank, and forty-seven pounds ofsteam on, ready for work;the hook and ladder and hoso companies were a'so well represented. And though their services ser-vices were not required, they aro none the less entitled to just praise. Yesterday Yes-terday afternoon Messrs. Teasdel & Co., taking this view of tho matter, forwarded the following note with its liberal enclosufo to the chief engineer of the city lire department, John D. T. Sin: Enclosed pleaso find check for $100, which pleaso accept- We fully appreciate your prompt attention to tho call for assistance this day, through tho casually from tho over heating of tho stove pipe in tho room occupied by J. Tiernan, Fq., mining agent, being over our clothing salesroom; our own loss not exceeding twenty-five dollars. Yours, most respeotfully. Teasdel & Co. Tho money will bo useful in assisting the firemen's library and other matters for their benefit, which aro in an incomplete in-complete condition. |
