Y.( Dec, 23rd, 1823, and in the yer 1S41, moved with his mother and family to Xauvoo, Illinois. When the people were driven from there he followed them into Iowa and the Indian Territory. Upon the call being made for the "Mormon Battalion," Bat-talion," he was one of the volunteers who joined that force, and with it crossed the deserts to California, served his full time faithfully as a soldier until un-til discharged, when the battalion was disbanded at Los Angeles. He remained re-mained in California some time, and we believe, upon the discovery of gold, worked in the mines. He joined bis mother and family in this city in 1852, where he has since resided, except during an absence of two years on a mission to England. He was for a long time a member of the old Deseret Dramatic association and frequently appeared prominently on the stage as an amateur. He was a man apparently of a strong, healthy constitution and very little troubled with sickness or disease. He was taken sick some two weeks ago with pneumonia, pneumo-nia, and although Dp alarm was at first felt for him, he gradually grew worse and finally succumbed to the disease. Aa a citizen he was highly esteemed; open, frank and generous in disposition, disposi-tion, upright in all his dealings, a faithful faith-ful friend, an affectionate husband, a kind father, an honest man. |
