The steamer and hani engico Wt.ro placed at the tank, and tho hose wa- 6:rctchcd south to Second South Btreet, while the hook and ladder com-pirjy com-pirjy were employed in climbiDg on the Towcscud iioiise, taking up to tho I roof ropes, heoks, ka. At Z m. they wjnt to the tank near the theatre, carrying car-rying the hose from the steamer to tho roof of the city hall, and played from this point for half an hour; the steamer steam-er being exercised in the Htreet in front of the city baj!, until p.m. The average weight of steam used was J 9 jibe., and the ttreama wer thrown above tho tall liberty pole in front of the city ha!'. There were engaged in the drill fosty-scven men of Dioncer Engine Co. No. 1, tie total strength being seventy; twenty-three men of hand engine company com-pany Wa-atb the 20th Ward boys the total strength being thirty; twenty-six men of Alert hose company, total strength thirty; and twenty-eight men of the IJook and Ladder company, total etrcegth thirty, making a total engaged in the exercises of a hundred and iwemj-four men out of a hundred and sixty. Tho drill was highly satisfactory sat-isfactory and refl-:cicd much credit on the department. |
