Washington special spe-cial to tho Times says the idea is suggested sug-gested cf pacing a law providing lor the appointment by tho President of a commission to be composed of three or fivo gentlemen of learning and prominence, not actually tngaged in the politicil discussion of the day, to go to Utah during the recess of congress, con-gress, to make a thorough investigation investiga-tion of the whole Mormon question and report their conclusions to tho next congress. It is proposed that the commission shall not confine their inquiries in-quiries to Salt Lake city but shall vifit all parts of tho Territory and report re-port upon its laws, the resources of the people, their industry, educalional advantages and promise, and all matters mat-ters necessary to enable congre?s to form an unprejudiced view of thin great problcrr. Senator Morton has expressed himself in favor ot such commission, as well as other prominent men, and it is understood to be satisfactory to the Morinoor. |
