Editors Herald: Let it be proclaimed upon the house tops, aii;! suread throughout the length and breadth of wie Ifod, that tue third compound of lobelia inflate Is 'an antidote for etryejmine and many other deadly poison. A circumstance that occurred in Hruinia a few years since, is worth relating: A few days u fter President Johnson delivered what was termed his "drunken speech on tho political condition of our country!' where he pronounced Col. Forney a "dead duck," a neighbor called at our house and informal me that our ducks were tumbling around in alt directions, in the corn field, and enquired if we had not throw., poisoned corn out for the benefit of tho crows. I replied that we had done so. "Then," said he, "you have a fine flock of ded ducks." I summoned all the workmen on the farm to bring the ducks to me. The gentleman remonstrated, saying the ducks would all be dead before they could be brought in, but waited. Tlie ducks soon lay at my feet, and they nil recovemi, by tho next day, A number of people called to laugh at our "dead ducks." Col. Forney yet lives, for aught I know, although h? has hud many hard political doses. The ducks fulfilled their missions. As I had relieved many people who had intentionally or .accidentally taken strychnine, i thought it well to make i an etlbrt to save my ducks. I have lelt compelled to aiako the above statement as two serious and sad cases have- occurred in our city within a i short time. .Mlii. IT. K. r.UNTF.R, M. P. |
