Show Mav Dav Fe-tivai.-Y. -:erd i? j the Sui.day Echools of liui;! urn c. y( , Three Mile creek, and iiiard, iD Bex Elder county, celebrated the first ofj May with appropriate festivities, atj at a point selected for the purpose on Three Mile creek near the junction ofj the V. N. and C P. railroads. The schools assembled about 10 o'clock, those from Brigham city coming on the Utah Northern railroad, and the others oth-ers in carriages and wagons, accompanied accompa-nied with bands of music and carrying numerous flags and banners with ap- J propriate mottoes. I When all had arrived a procession was formed, which marched and coun-ter coun-ter marched with bands playing and flags flying, making a really beautiful display. The children, of whom there were not less than six hundred in procession, pro-cession, presented a fine, healthy and ! vigorous appearance, their faces beaming beam-ing with joy and happiness. Besides ! the children there were a large number of adults of both sexes and all ages present, with the excursion party from jSalt Lake, and the assemblage must I have numbered near twelve hundred ! persons. After marching, a circle was formed, and Mr. Charles Wright, of Willard, who acted asmastcrof ceremonies, cere-monies, in a few remarks stated the object of their gathering, which was to have a rc-union of the Sunday schools of that part of the county in a May day festival. He said that owing to the presence of President Young and his friends from Salt Lake, whom they 'were pleased and gratified to so unexpectedly unex-pectedly have with them, they would vary somewhat their original programme, pro-gramme, and invited the President and ! others to address the assembly. Prayer was olTered by the chaplain of tho day, after which the children sang the "Volunteers" led by professor Fishburu, of Brigham city. Brief ad-j ad-j dresses, appropriate- to the occasion, were tben delivered by presidents Geo. A. Smith and D. II. Wells; after which professor Fishburn's Box Elder choir sang "We thank Thee, O God, for a Prophet." President Brigham Young then addressed ad-dressed the assembly, counseling parents pa-rents and children on their duties to-iwardeacb to-iwardeacb other, that they might enjoy en-joy this life and that which is to come. After another song by the children the assembly was adjourned for refreshments. refresh-ments. On re -assembling a brief address was delivered by Mr. Charles Wright, and the children sung eomo very pretty May-day songs; when Miss Mary Warner, War-ner, of Willard, was crowned "Queen of May'" and received with grace the fealty of her subjects. A quadrille by twelve couples was then danced, after which dancing, ball-playing ball-playing and other exercises became general and our roporter left them in the height of their enjoymenu The wusjc furnished was very excellent. |
