Show BXCURSIOS O TIIK I TAII j SORTUKItX. Ye6terday,PreidtntBrif:ham Voting, j accompanied by the oc-:rs of the L'uh Central and I'tah Northern railroads, and a large party of ladies and gentlemeo, made an eicaron to j (he Utah Northern railroad now being' built through the northern part of Weber county, under the superintend-' ency of John W. Young, Kq., the! president of the company. The party I left this city in special cars by the regular ' train, at a m., acc'jojpanied as far a Ogden by the missionaries and other I gentlemen who were en route for the! east. There parting company with i those going east, the excursionists continued con-tinued northward in a special Utah Central train, over the Central Pacific road, the use of which had been courteously cour-teously extended to the party by superintendent super-intendent Campbell, the gentlemanly representative of the Central Pacific at Ogden. At 8 o'clock the train arrived at "Three Mile creek," the junction of the Utah Northern with the C. P-, where a train of Utah Northern narrow nar-row gauge cars, consisting of the handsome hand-some locomotive "John Yv . oung' and seven cars, were in waiting, which were soon tilled by the excursionists and in which they ran over the road, stopping opposite Brighaui city. The road bed, for new work, s very firm, and the cars run exceedingly smooth. This experimental trip was very satisfactory, satis-factory, and the road was pronounced a success by all the railroad experts on board. The track is already laid some six or seven miles, and there is plenty of iron on hand and on the way to complete it to Logan, winch point it is expected to reach by August. The party, after halting, was soon joined by a large procession of Sunday school children, who with music and . banners had coma to make a trip on the railroad to Three Mile creek, to join similar parlies from other settle ments to celebrate the May-doy fes.tt-1 val. On seeing President Young, the party gave him three cheers, and exhibited ex-hibited ruucli enthusiasm at meeting him again in the enjoyment of liberty. Three cheers were also given for the "Utah Northern" and its president The excursion party having satisfied themselves with "inspecting the road, returned to tho junction, where considerable con-siderable time was spent in pic-nic-iug, and participating in the May-day festivities fes-tivities with the Sunday schools, referred refer-red to elsewhere. Those who were so unfortunate as to have neglected to provide themselves with refreshments, were most hospitably entertained with a substantial luncheon by Mr. John W. Young, at his railroad quarters. The party left tho junction at three o'clock p.m., for Ogden, where they spent some time in visiting through the city, and around the junction railroad depots, and returned to this oity with the regular evening traiu, all feeling much pleased and benefitted by the "out," and wishing every success to the Utah Northern, the first narrow gaugo road in Utah. |
