Show Snakes in a Stage Coach. The Los ADgeles Star of the 20th says : Tho attention of Mr. Fall was attracted at-tracted yesterday, in tho office of the Overland Stago company, by a strange hissing and rattling sound which emanated ema-nated from a small white pine box, which had been received at tho office by tho last stago from somo place in Santa Barbara county. Accompanying Accompany-ing the box was a bear sk'tn, and both wore directed to "Dr. Clark, care of J. B. McCoy, North San Diego." A close examination of it revealed the fact that it contained a couplo of well grown rattle snakes. War was immediately imme-diately declared, and, after receiving heavy reinforcements, tho occupants moved on tho box, and, after a brief but exciting struggle, succeeded in decapitating their snakoships, ono of whom carried eight and theothor seven rattles. The most important question left for settlement is the degree of culpability cul-pability which ehould attach to a party who sends poisoi.ous reptiles as fi eight oo a passengor coach, without infoi ruing ru-ing the carrier of the fact. |
