Show Not so Bi.ai.-ic as Vaintkd. Hon. A. Hutch, of I leber City, Wasatch co., and l'reMilent of tho Co-operutivo store there, writes to correct some statements made in the IIk.hAID lust week, relative to Jacob Harris, undoi tho caption "A smart scoundrel." daeob did not bear to this city will, him f 100 of money belonging to the Cooperative store, lie had resided in 1 leber city for sonio years, and bore tho reputation of being honest in money matters. Mr. Hatch intrusted him with $7 to buy a keg of nails, with $13 worth of furs, and with nil order for a bill of goods to bo purchased in this city. The goods wero put up on the order, and tho $-0 was duly returned by mail, with an apology for not taking tho articles back in person. This exonerates ex-onerates Harris from tho chargo ol breach of trust and decamping with the money, however elso ho may have been culpable. Tho Herald received its informa don from two residents of Heber, brought to this otlieo by a very reliable gentleman of this city ; but from Mr. Hatch's statement they had evidently placed too much confidence in Madame Humor, who is exceedingly apt to greatly exaggerate tho pecadilloes ol people. |
