Show The Sabhatu. Without professing to bo strict Sabbatariaus, we believe in observing the Sabbath day aud restraining restrain-ing from all labor, trade and traffic, un iess such labor is a necessity or consisted con-sisted in doing good, which is lawful on all days. We do not think, while most of our citizens arc wendiug their way to their respective places of worship, wor-ship, it looks decent to see certain shops open and the owners vending their wares just as if it were market day. We presume there is a city ordinance ordi-nance which regulates the closing ol stores on the Sabbath. If there is, it should be enforced. Whatever the law nay be, there certainly is not much -:ospel in this species of petty trading on the Sabbath. Another practice which has obtained with some of our -mall shops is the exposure of showy .roods iu their windows and leaving ;hem without blinds or shutters during ihe Sabbath. We know of no law igaint this practice, but public decency would suggest its immediate orrection. |
