Show GENERAL. Senate Special Session. Washington, 27. The unfinished business of yesterday was taken up, being the resolution of Wilson directing direct-ing the Seargent-at-arms to discharge White and Itamsdell from custody at the termination of the present session. Nye had offered au amendment which provided that this resolution shall not be considered to interfere with any legal proceedings which may be instituted against White and Kamsdell upon a certificate from the Vice President, under the third section of the act of January 24th, 1S57. Simonton was called before the select committee of the House to answer certain cer-tain questions propounded to him in relation to a charge against members of the House, which he had made in the New York 'Times, but which he declined to answer on the ground that to do so would violate his professional honor. The only reason given for the passage of this law was that the House could not hold a witness in custody after its adjournment, the power of the House and Senate being inadequate to punish. They then made refusal tu answer a criminal offence; would it noi Oe better to turn White and Kamsdeh over to the law than to exercise doubtful doubt-ful power of detaining tbem. Sherman said the testimony which had been reported to the Senate exculpated ex-culpated every Senator from imputation. imputa-tion. Oonkling at some length argued that the Senate had power to continue an imprisonment after its adjournment, the same as; it bad to clothe a committee commit-tee with power to act in such vaca tion. "i Sumnor, in reply to Conkling, said ihat the' Senator had endeavored to establish for the Senate a prerogative which by history and precedent did noi oelong to it. He then proceeded to argue that at the clo.-e of the session of the Senate auy imprisonment fouu ded on its order must cease. Of this he had no douht. Coal mine ou Fire. Philadelphia, 27.
