Mr. Thumas Piiss. just down from :he Nez Perces country, furm-lies us he jjarticuiars of a coid blouded mur-ler, mur-ler, perpetrated at Camas Prairie, on :he night of the 15th inst It seems that a "man named Peter Walters, the owner of a saw mill, met one ol his workmen, named Joseph ates,for the purpose of having a settlement. They met at Brown s house, aud made their settlement without difficulty, Walters paying Yates several hundred dollars. The business over, Walters went to the door, and in a few moments called for Yates to come out. On going to the door, Walters addressed Yates as follows: "Well, sir, you have gut the money; I don't ewe you anything.' To which Yates replied : "Yes; it is all settled" When Walters said: 'No, it i.-n't : I've got another settlement settle-ment to make with you," and imme-liately imme-liately drew his revolver and jired wice, both balls takinj effeet. Y'ates lived several hours after being shot : bat from the first death was inevit -.ble. he shooting occasioned great excitement, excite-ment, and for time there was talk of a mob execution, but finally better counsels prevailed, and the pri? mer was arrested and sent to j dl. Both parties to the tragedy were single men, and have herctoi'o e stood fair in the community. The only explanation of 'he shooting was that Y'ates h?d made remarks leflecting upon Walters' integrity, integ-rity, anu it is supposed that this coming com-ing to his knowledge he determined to ake Yates' life.
