Show I BESPECTED LADY DEAD 1 Grandmother Evans of Lehi Has I Passed Away iehi June 28 Today at k oclock p I m one of our oldest pioneers peace I fully passed to the great beyond B A Evans the wife of the late j I bishop D Evans was the daughter of j I Pltasant and Barbara Ann Emell born j May 16 1821 in Albemarle county Virginia I Vir-ginia She left there with her fathers I family when she was 9 years old and I i ircved Tennessee where she remain I et < three years In 1833 she emigrated j to Missouri Jacob Foutz first preached j j preach-ed Mormonism to her in her fathers I house and she was baptized by P Ev I I ans June 10 1837 She lived in Missouri until the Saints were drIven into Illinois I Illi-nois where hep mother and two of her I sisters died She was left with two small sisters to care for She married David Evans on the 23rd of November 184L He was a widower with eight children C She remained in Illinois until 1846 Her husband was bishop of the Eleventh Elev-enth ward in Nauvoo and haa charge of the moving of a large number of the I people of that place She crossed the I Mississippi river and helped her husband I I hus-band to break prairie land They received I re-ceived cows and oxen for their nay which helped them on their jpurney I westward She arrived in Council Bluffs in the fall and spent the winter weaving for her family Their cattle died and she left in February Feb-ruary 1S17 by team for Missouri On this journey they lost their team Her husband procured a fresh supply of provisions and a team and they procEeded pro-ceeded on their journey arriving at a place called Midway March 11S47 Here she gave birth to a son in a house without doors windows floor or a chimney Her food was corn bread and bran coffee May 15 1850 she started for Utah but the cholera appeared in camp and the oldest daughter died She arrived in Salt Lake City Sept 15 I 1850 and came to Lehi Feb 15 1851 She has held a number of offices among the ladies in Lehi and was them the-m ther of 15 children and has 106 grandchildren and 61 gre tgrai chll dren She has been a widow 13 years She died in full faith and testified that Joseph Smith was a prophet and that she was present when Brigham Young tcok the leadership of the church hearing hear-ing him speak in the voice of the dd prophet Her funeral will be held at 10 a m in the tabernacle at Lehi on Thursday I I |
