Show THE STREET SPRINKLING COUNCILMAN LEN HAS FIGURES FIG-URES SUPPORTING HIS PLAN Thinks the City Should Do the Sprinkling in the Area Outside of the Districts Covered by Contract I Councilman John Allen chairman of the street committee has compiled some interesting figures in support of his move to have the city do Its own I sprinkling in i the districts not covered by the citys contract with Mr Griffin The latter has a contract to dojjll the sprinkling in four or five districts at a stipulated amount per month He also agreed to do extra sprinkling at 245 per block per week There are now 73 blocks of this extra sprinkling being done and according io Allens figures this amounts to 76650 per month or an average of 383250 for five months which constitutes the sprinkling season Mr Allen computes that four sprinkling sprink-ling carts can do the same work in a thorough manner at a cost of 53 tier day for each sprinkler or a total of 1800 for al four during the entire season of five months Placing the approximate ap-proximate cost of constructing the four carts at 1800 the total cost to the city in one year would be only S3600 or a saving during the first year of 23250 in addition to owning the carts In accordance with the instructions of the council last Tuesday night the city recorder has solicited bids for four sprinkling wagons and if favorable proposals come in it is quite likely the city will once mire engage in the sprinkling business |
