Show NEW ENTERPRISE FOR UTAH Utilization of the Deposits of Guano of the Great Salt Lake A new enterprise for Utah in which a number of the prominent men of Salt Lake are identified will soon be fairly launched and it is believed that the project will prove to be both feasible feas-ible and profitable The Utah Guano company has opened I an office at 40S McCornlck block and from A Richter the manager it is learned that i is the intention of the company to begin the recovery and sale of this rat fertilizer at an early date and that with this end in view the noted shipbuilder Captain Davis was now at work on the Syracuse beach engaged In the construction of a threemaster schooner which is to be ready for active service within GO days and which is to cast 87000 This craft will be 125 feet in length with 25foot beam I will have a holding capacity of 400 tons of guano and will be utilized in the traispora tion of this commercial commodity r from Gunnison Hat and Davis islands in the Great Salt lake to Syracuse beach where a pier will be erected and I where the guano will be ground up and prepared for the market as it is the intention of the company to instill a mill at the nler with a capacity of handling 50 tons of the guano daily Guano as is generally well known is one of the greatest fertilizers ever dis covered I is the excrement of blr sand s-and the immense deposits on the islands above mentioned is the t accumulation accu-mulation of ages and there seems to be no limit as to quantity as I exists in deposits ranging from six inches to six feet thick Commercially the quotation on prepared pre-pared guano ranges from 35 to 545 a ton but the Utah company on account of the facility for handling and its accessibility ac-cessibility will quote it at 20 a ton and i is believed thatI will find a ready market for all that i can produce pro-duce In fact the company has found a quick market in California for the product and i expects to prepare and ship at least 6000 tons thin season According to all calculations there are a million tons of guano in sight on the islands above mentioned and the accumulation goes steadily on as at the present time there are millions of seagulls and pelicans now nesting there and Mr Richter states that it is a wonderful sight to see them I I The use ofguano in > ITtah as a fer tilizer has not asyeT conic into general a use but it has been demonstrated by those who have tried It that with it two crops of strawberries can b raised yearly and that year Its utilization results in the raising of larger crops of everv description and of a superior quality The officers and director of the Utah Guano company areas follows Simon Bambergr president A H Cannon vicepresident l T A Perkins secretary W S McCornfck treasure It Richter general l manager John Beck and W L MarinnH |
