Show THE BUTEUFCELD TUXAEL A Binshum Enterprise of Mngpni tilde and Worth In the spring work will be resumed in the long Butterfield tunnel in West Mountain district This tunnel is being be-ing driven by the Butterfield Mining company for the purpose of draining its group of mines between Bingham and Butterfield canyons and incidentally to also drain the other great mines in that locality The tunnel is now in a distance of 8000 feet the face being only 1200 feet from the northeast end line of the Northern Chief lode one of the Butter field group When completed the tunnel tun-nel will have obtained a depth of 1800 feet below the surface and a depth of 1400 feet below the deepest workings of the mine and will also drain the mines of the company so that the great bodies of high grade ore contained in them can be easily and economically extracted I In driving this tunnel several ore bodies have been cut at a depth of 1400 feet thus showing the continuity and permanency of the ore bodies of that I locality which in itself is a great thing for that district as this work has practically demonstrated the I values and extent of the mineral zone of the camp The ore bodies cut by the tunnel were very rich going from 400 to 750 ounces silver 5 to 10 in gold and about 30 per cent lead to the ton Mr George W Keel the manager of the Butterfield property is now working I work-ing twenty men in the Northern Chief mine and is taking out from 150 to 200 tons of ore daily that funs 60 ounces in silver 5 to 10 in gold and 45 per cent lead to the ton The Northern Chief is now being worked through a tunnel and an upraise is being made in a solid mass of ore and it is expected that at any day now connections will be made with the upper workings of the mine which are now full of water unon the consummation of which a much larger tonnage can be taken out as bad air and cramped quarters at present prohibit the working of many I men In the Queen mine which in the past has been a heavy producer of ore running run-ning 100 ounces silver 12 to 15 per cent lead and some gold the water has taken complete possession but upon the completion of the long tunnel this difficulty will be done away with and a large force of men can be employed in the extraction of immense quanti ties of high grade ore quant The Butterfield tunnel when completed com-pleted will revolutionize mining opera tions in Bingham and in consequence a stream of precious metal will wi constantly con-stantly flow from the mines of this grand old camp to enrich the owners thereof and bring prosperity and plenty to the inhabitants of the valley I |
