Show ON ENSIGN PEAK THE HERALDS JUBILEE FLAGSTAFF FLAG-STAFF LOCATED YESTERDAY The Work Done By the Signal Corps of the National Guard A Message sage Plashed Down From the Peak Pek With the assistance of the signal corps of the national guard The Heralds Her-alds Ensign Peak flagstaff was yesterday yes-terday located without trouble Lieutenant Lieu-tenant Sharkey was In command of the detachment which mounted the peak and with him were Sergeants Grpenwald Caine and Smith The other detachment which stood at the Brigham Brig-ham Young statue was commanded by Lieutenant Stimson and consisted ot Sergeants Lambert Tobias and Wood mansee The detachment under Lieutenant Lieu-tenant Sharkey left at 7 am and arrived ar-rived there at S30 At 9 oclock the detachment from the city took position and opened communication com-munication with the party on the peak The city detachment surveyed the peak with the aid of powerful glasses and when the sergeant with the signal flag arrived at a point in the center ot the cone as it appeared from the city and so located on the brow that the full length figure of the signal officer carrying car-rying the flag could be seen the heliograph helio-graph Hashed the message to locate the staff at that point Lieutenant Sharkey held the flag and will have the honor of designating the spot where the flag will stand Contractor Midsley who will erect the staff was on the ground and with him were several spectators The following fol-lowing peak message was sent from the Ensign Peak July 1 To His Excellency Heber M Wells Lieutenant Sharkey sends his greet ings and wishes to state that the signal corps has this day officially located The Salt Lake Herald Jubilee flagstaff on Ensign Peak Signed J A GREENWALD First Senreant tomorrow The work morninir of erecting the staff begins 4 |
