lodges working under the jurisdiction of the Sovereign Grand lodge will aggregate at least 000000 to which aggegate add 25 000000 more to cover personal effects and cash of all branches of our order As a beneficial order Odd Fellowship stands second to none I is the largest larg-est order in the world in numbers and the strongest financially Iumbers order of Odd Fellows was the first to establish estab-lish the payment of weekly sick benefits bene-fits the first to establish systematic visitation of the sick by assigning one member for each evening of the week to watch by the sick bed and the first to pay a fixed funeral benefit We are not allowed to discuss politics or religion within the walls of our lodge rooms yet we are politicians In the highest sense of the word In that we are taughtyea obligated be lo alto al-to our country subordinate to its laws and love Its flag In religion while we are not allowed to discuss I creeds or dogmas within the walls of i our lodge rooms no man can become an Odd Fellow unless he believes in I God a the divine ruler of the universe nor can he be a true Odd Fellow unless un-less he is loyal to his country faithful to his family obligations and in ever sense a moral and honest man In short the teachings of our beloved order or-der assist largely in laying the foundation founda-tion for pure Christian manhood We must lead lives in keeping wIth the obligations we have taken In Odd Fellowship we cannot hope to grow and be a power for good unless our daily lives are In keeping Vith the I highest order of sober and industrious I manhood E rest He Is sojourning so-journing in California for a few weeks Ridgely No 9 met on Wednesday as usual A pleasant time was spent by the members The reports which are being prepared for the grand secretary will make a good showing for No 9 and have the advantage of carefully guarding the treasury The condition of the lodge financially is excellent Enterprise No 15 on Wednesday had nine past grands present as visiting brethren from other jurisdictions who interested the members until a late hour giving them experiences In the order and relating Incidents that came under their observation The meeting was profitable in every way Utah No 1 on Thursday had few present on account of the excursion to Garfield which the members felt in duty bound to attend Jordan No 3 on the same evening had a pleasant session with many present who took I up the time discussing lodge affairs and preparing semiannual reports for the grand lodge Salt Lake No 2 met on Friday The members turned out well They keep their heads and hearts full of good thoughts toward the brethren The cup that is full will hold no more Fidelity No 17 on Friday held an interesting session which bv the wav I is not an unusual occurrence with this wide awake lodge They not only call each other brothers but are brothers who let the sunshine along lifes pathway path-way grow brighter as they advance On next Wednesday evening all the city lodges will unite In a union installation in-stallation of their respective officers Refreshments will follow the business of the evening which will be under the management 01 District Deputy GrandMaster e who will not install wl stall any officer as noble grand or vice grand who a not properly qualified II himself for the position to which he aspires The excursion to Garfield last Thursday Thurs-day was greatly enjoyed by all who went RebekahsEster lodge No S assembled as-sembled together at their hall on Tuesday Tues-day night A considerable amount of business was transacted The number num-ber of sisters and brothers present was a pretty good evidence of the popularity pop-ularity of this lodge The members goon go-on the principle that open eyes will I discern opportunities everywhere 111 ears will never fail to detect the cries I of those who are perishing for assistance assist-ance open hearts will never want for I I worthy objects unon which to bestow their gifts open hands will never lack for noble work to do The sisters believe be-lieve in the faithful adherence to the ennobling principles of friendship love and truth There being one lady present for initiation ini-tiation the degree staff retired to prepare pre-pare for conferring the degreg and on returning showed the audience some good floor work after which the candidate candi-date was presented for initiation The noble grand instructed the candidate in a quiet and impressive manner The I other members 01 the staff deserve praise for their efficiency in floor work I and charges so ably delivered The lodge had as a visitor Mrs L L I Morrison past president of the Ilinols Rebekah assembly and superintendent j of the Odd Fellow Orphans home located lo-cated at Lincoln III Mrs Morrison Is I an eloquent and fluent speaker and on this occasion she won the hearts of the sisters present and brothers as well by her description of the little ones I who are cared for by the order and the means employed to teach them the true principles of life and to raise them up as noble examples of manhood I and womanhood to lead pure virtuous j I lives 1 believe in the Creator and accomplish I ol I t complish a good purpose in fulfilling their destiny Sister Morrison is one I of the bright particular stars in the firmament cf Rebekah Odd Fellowship Under her able guidance the Orphans home at Lincoln is accomplishing to I a full degree the purpose for which I was organized The home has property II prop-erty valued at 90000 most of which amount was raised through the efforts of the fair Rebekahs of the great state of Illinois A committee was appointed to prepare pre-pare for another excursion in August which will in all probability be held at the Lagoon on the 18th The members of No 8 promote peace I and discourage strife and discord They are religious but not sectarian patriotic not partisan They showed I their love for the order by sending over twothirds ot their members to Garfield on the occasion of the Odd Fellows excursion something which no other lodge In the city can say On the 20th they have their officers installed in-stalled by Sister Corker district the resort unstinted The ladies of Star of the West odge No3 D of H A O U W will conduct an excursion to the same popular pop-ular place on Thursday next the 15th inst when all Degree of Honor people A O U W people and people generally gener-ally are looked for to go with them and enjoy a pleasant days outing Fraternally the order Is in good condition just now in Salt Lake and if visitations to to cap the climax Brother John E Evans put the lodge in convulsions of laughter by reading In his inimitable style a piece entitled Mr Sooopen dyke Takes Up a Farm A recess was the taken and all adjourned to the supper room to partake o cake and ice cream Upon reassembling Past Master Workman G H Bachman addressed the lodge assuring them that he was sd to belong to No 10 and was of the opinion that every brother who once belonged to No 2 excepting one wouia nnany join with us In working for the upbuilding of this lodge to which they now united themselves Brother Fisher Harris in resoonse to a request t for a speech said he had been very much interested in the proceedings of the evening and in an eloquent manner spoke upon the beauty and grandure of the principles o the meet-ing was one of the most enjoyable for a long time The attendance was good considering tOe very warm weather I and unusual interest was manifest in the lodge proceedings A committee on excursion was in attendance I at-tendance from Silver Forum consisting 01 Companions Granger Snay and Trenam for the purpose of meeting with a similar committee from this Forum with a view to getting up an excursion to one of the numerous resorts along about the end of the present month The president appointed ap-pointed Companions Learn Hoenstein and Ir Palmer as the committee I from 60S Mr S E Reaugh ot general interest and attraction particuarly as the citizens of that city are making great preparations prepara-tions for the encampment of the comrades com-rades and their friends It will be well for the members of McKean post to attend all its meetings that they may obtain all the news relating to the department de-partment and national matters The post meeting will be called promptly at 8 their respects re-spects and extend their congratulations to Mrs Annie B Holland the chaplain ot the corps on her 78th birthday The day wa passed very pleasantly and I the dinner under the shade ot
