Show L RIO GRANDE RISING El Paso Texas People Having Most Serious Trouble El Paso Tex May 6The Rio Grande continues to rise and an army I of men are strung out on Sixth street working on the new levee that was thrown up on Monday night when the old levee broke This morning at 10 oclock all the bells In Juarez were rung to call out the people to check a break in the Juarez levee and the Mexican I troops stationed In Juarez were put to work to save the Mexican end of one I of the international street car bridges the approaches to which were being washed out by the water The bridge I was saved as was also the Juarez levee At noon today the levee l in front of oe ab re sonr I I City Recorder C B Pattersons residence resi-dence broke and the waters rushed into the house almost drowning the recorder I I and a friend who was with him Mr Patterson had just moved his family out His pretty residence wa wash away together with a dozen other houses In the neighborhood Every wagon in El Paso is ensaged moving people from parts of the city endangered endan-gered by the Ilopd Several hundred poor Mexican citizens who resided on I the river front have had their houses washed away and are camping out on vacant lots So far as can be learned no human lives were lost in the flood I Is feared that the El Paso street levee will break tonight I so a portion por-tion of the business part of the city will be flooded |
