Show THE WARD CONVENTIONS The ward conventions of the Democratic Demo-cratic party for the nomination of city councilors meet tonight Their task is a simple one and they should have but a single object that object the nomination nomin-ation of the very best men in the party for members cf the council In selecting select-ing candidates all the conditions that confront and will confront those who shall administer the affairs of the city must be considered and only those who I can successfully cope with them should be named This means the selection of men of superior business and executive ability and firmness and strength of character The public interest demands this In naming candidates the ward conventions con-ventions must bear in mind that there is a concerted effort In this city to break down party lines the plea advanced ad-vanced in justification of the effort being be-ing that there can be no honest and competent government of this city by any but a nonpartisan party It mayor may-or It may not be honestly made but however made it is false The Democrats Demo-crats are giving the county of Salt Lake an honest and competent government govern-ment and they can give this city the same kind All they have to do to accomplish ac-complish this is to nominate the same kind of men that they did to control the affairs of the county This they owe to themselves and to the people Another thing to be borne In mind is the fact that to receive the support of the people candidates must have the confidence of the people both as to integrity In-tegrity and ability The merit of the ticket should be so great that all must admit it In making it up all personal considerations should be laid aside and only public considerations be thought of There is far more involved In the approaching city election than the mere administration of the citys affairs important im-portant as that is hence the necessity for great care in naming candidates for office The ward conventions have Important work to do tonight and its importance should be kept constantly in mind by the delegates to them It is the only plan upon which to proceed |
