Show MONETARY COMaIISSION Gold Bugs Meet and Make Preliminary 1 mary Arrangements j Washington Sept 22Th monetary V commission appointed under the authority au-thority of the Indianapolis sound money convention held its opening session ses-sion at the Arlington hotel in this ety V today Ail the members of the commission com-mission except Stuyvesant FIsh of New York and L A Garnet of San Francisco Fran-cisco wee present The afternoon meeting was devoted to preliminary discussion of the scope cf the investigation investi-gation and the methods to be pursued ExSenator Edmunds was chosen tc preide over the deliberations of the commission and Mr G E Leightcjn of St Louis was elected vice chairman A special committee consisting ut Messrs Leighton Patterson and Fairchild Fair-child was appointed for the purpose of considering the question of what expert ex-pert help the commission may need in the prosecution of Its work and of suggesting sug-gesting methods to be followed In disposing t dis-posing of the questions presented This committee will recommend that two experts i ex-perts with salaries be appointed to collate r col-late in prooer form the suggestions Ii that have been received for reference to the appropriate committees The persons to be recommended are Messrs L Carroll Root of New York and H V Parker Willis of Chicago The appointment t appoint-ment of three general committees will also be recommended viz on gold and I currency on United States currency and t > n the banking question to which the suggestions received will be referred i re-ferred The decision reached by the special committee will be laid before V tihe committee tonight Hon H H KoMsaat and George Foster Peabody who are members of the Indianapolis I executive committee which appointedV the commission are sitting with the i members of the general body in the preliminary stages of its work Tonight the commission agreed to the election of Messrs Root and Willis as collating secretaries Nothing else was I accomplished |
