Show A TALK OX CHARITY Incident Recalling That the Poor Are Alwajx With Us Second Prize Charity begins at home Yes indeed deed it does but some people think itot they are so afraid that the children chil-dren of China Japan India or in fact any other country in the world except their own will be hungry or without food warmth or good clothes However How-ever it is not necessary to go very far from almost any home in this city to cty find some family in a needy state There are ever so many little children who go to bed hungry and cold many a night of their lives and does not almost everybody agree with me that i would be more charitable to look after the poor of our own country than of other countries After all of our poor have been well cared for then let missions be estab lished to take care of the poor of foreign for-eign countries In Salt Lake city alone there are a great many poor people As t was coming home from school the other day I witnessed a very touching incident I met a poor little boy evidently not more than eight years of age accompanied accom-panied by a child much younger than himself and both poorly clad The elder el-der carried a small tin pail in his hand and they went up to one of the men who drive an oil wagon The larger boy begged of him most pitifully for a little oil saying that his mother and little baby sister was at homesick home-sick Think how much it would brighten up that home Christmas day to have plenty to eat and a nice warm lire The average child expects to get toys and the like while these poor children would think it a very merry Christmas if they only had plenty to eat KATHERINE MDONALD Sumner School Sth Grade B class age 15 |
