Show TEACHERS ASSOCIATION Preparations For the Annual Meeting Meet-ing at Ogden The teachers of the public schools as well as the educators of the higher institutions In-stitutions of learning in the state are making grand preparations for the first annual State Teachers association associa-tion which will convene in a three days session at Ogden December 26 From present indications about 400 teachers are expected to be in attendance attend-ance from all parts of the state and the meeting itself will be something of an intellectual feast that cannot fail to bring good results A most elaborate programme has been arranged Including papers and addresses from some of the leading educators in this intermountain region re-gion On the opening day the permanent organization of the association will be effected This will probably be the last J official act of any consequence of T B Lewis territorial commissioner of schools The sessions will be held in the auditorium au-ditorium of the Methodist church on Twentyfourth street between Washington Wash-ington and Adams On the opening session there will be an address of welcome by Mayor C M Brough and Prof William Allison superintendent of the Ogden schools and a response in behalf of the visiting teachers will be made by Territorial Commissioner T B Lewis In the evening President J H Paul of the Logan agricultural college col-lege will deliver a lecture on The Real Needs of the Student The programme for Friday includes papers on the following topics The Function of the University bjt Dr James E Talmage of the state university uni-versity Evolution in Education by Prof William M Stewart of the state university followed by a discussion on the latter topic by Prof George H Brimhall of the B Y academy Provo The Friday afternoon programme includes in-cludes The Function of the High School by Prof W R Malone principal prin-cipal of the Salt Lake High school C f and a discussion of the same by HonE Hon-E JL Wilson of Provo Signs andS and-S rmbols in Mathematics by President W J Kerr of the B Y academy I Provo Science Below the High School by Prof George A Eaton of the Ogden High school Miss M J Vawter of Salt Lake will speak on Kindergartens and in the evening there will be an illustrated lecture on United States history by Prof G M I Marshall Ph D of the university of Utah Saturday mornings session will open with a disquisition on The Common School Organization and Function by Prof C A Kenaston of the Salt Lake college Correlations in Geography Geogra-phy Is the theme of a thirty minutes paper by Prof C A Whiting of the state university while Superintendent M Hall of Weber county is slated for a discussion of the same The mornIng morn-Ing session will conclude with a paper tJ II on Drawing by Prof D R Augs burg of Salt Lake In the afternoon Recent Changes in I Primary Methods will receive attention atten-tion from Miss M Adelaide Holton of the Salt Lake schools while Miss Maud May Babcock also of this city will follow with a paper on Elocution Miss Susie Root of Salt Lake Is down for an essay on Physical Culture while Miss Belle Salmon of Ogden will wind up the afternoons exercises by reading < a paper on Physical Culture Drill In the evening President James E Tt lmage will deliver an illustrated lecture lec-ture on Astronomy after which a grand reception will be tendered the visiting teachers at the Reed hoteL |
