Show SECY JAMES RETURNS AFTER A TRIP TO DENVER RETELLS RE-TELLS OF IT GLIBLY Making Arrangements for the Next Eisteddfod at Denver Wined nail Dined nnd Treated Like a Prince General Secretary John James of the Cambrian association and the whilom assistant prosecutor and clerk In the police court returned from a two weeks visit in Denver Sunday evening where he has been putting in the foundation stakes for the great Eisteddfod to be held in Colorados capital in 1896 From the newspaper reports received ahead of his return it would appear that Mr James was much in evidence among Denvers I Four Hundred forhe was wined and I dined in both private and public and I not the least among the honors bestowed be-stowed upon the genial little gentleman gentle-man was the banquet tendered him by the Arapahoe Press association for newspaper men as a rule know values when they see them Mr James cant talk fast enough to tell of his royal reception and universal univer-sal hospitable treatment On the 26th ult he met a Colorado state committee and conferred with them in maturing pians for the musical event next year A committee to arrange the contests and prizes was appointed composed of John J Jenkins president Lloyd Jones Rev 11 A Ellis Rev Owen Jones Professor Vincent Morgan Fred T Herbert R D Reese H R Hughes Josiah Hughes R J Grif fiths and John Sylvanus An auditorium constructed of tile te steel and glass costing 200000 is to be built and completed by next August Aug-ust said Mr James In this the Eisteddfod will be held The chamber of commerce is supplemented by a committee of publicspirited businessmen business-men who will allow nothing to check the tide of success already secured The site selected is central and of easy access The architectural plans will be published within a week or so showing the structure to be after the style of our tabernacle with a seating capacity for 14000 The programme of exercises will be ready for publication and broadcast circulation next week Following this there will be agents of the Cambrian association who will go all over the country and pave the way for choirs and bands to prepare for the great contest Already they have notices of intended entry from Missouri Iowa Kansas Nebraska Montana Idaho Wyoming and of course from Utah and Colorado Many other states will be In line in plenty of time and the outlook is flatteringly favorable for the greatest musical event ever held in the Unfred States I would like to throw aside my modesty for G moment and pay tri bute at home for my treatment abroad The Denver fire and police board made Mr T F Thomas who accompanied mare accompanie me on this trip and myself their guests at a banquet at the Windsor gests I was a smoker such a only Denver uptodate people know how to get up and enjoy The Cambrian society 300 strong next extended their hospitable feelings in a banquet at the palatial residence of W A Bruibaker 1927 Sherman Sher-man avenue Another banquet was given by the Arapahoe Press associa tion ana we were invited guests to the private rehearsal of Professor Henry Housleys opera The Juggler with the Bostonians as an audience Mr Housley will be remembered here as the leader of a leder the Denver Choral = I ciety for At all these places I was called upon remarks which of course was very flattering and did me or rather Utah high honor In brief I found that Denver contained a great geat many of the kind of people that we have in Utah a people that make I nations proud |
