Show I KANSAS GREETS CHICAGO CHICAGO Dec Kansas greeted Chicago tonight The speakers greete speers evening displayed Kansas in all her glory and showed Chicagoans that treasures were lying not far away In the west wait ing to be garnered One disappointment Isapplntet of the evening was the nonappearance of John J Ingalls who nonappnco ben a nounced as one of the speakers The Kansas meeting was arranged by the Kans Million club which was organized or-ganized with the sole Idea of bringing a brngng million persons to the Sunflower rtate tte Governor E N Merrill J R Burton E Stanley state school superintendent and J V Beekman W C Edwards tlio secretary of state of Kansas W T Rice J S Emory t Irrigation lecturer ana E Wilder treasurer of the Santa Fa railroad were the speakers c > 7 < ANTIPLATTREPUBLICANS REPUBLICANS They Propose to Effect a Change in Organization REFORM IS NECESSARY BUT ONE WAY TO BRING ABOL7T HARMONY An Appeal Will Be Made to the Platt Men to Retire Certain Cer-tain I I That History Is Liable to Repeat Itielf I the Platt People Peo-ple Insist on Their Present Course Broadguaged Men Are Needed Neccec NEW YORK Dec William Brookfield Brook-field Cornelius N Bliss General Anson G McCook and other leaders of the antiPlatt Republicans will hold a meeting this week to decide on steps to effect a change in the methods of Republican organization of this city The date and place of the meeting Mr Brookfield said has not yet been fixedBut But he added I shall do all in my power to bring together all the Republicans who believe that reform is necessary Are you in favor of starting a new organization I dO not care to express any point just now Mr Brookfield replied I will say however that a change is necessary whether it is accomplished by a bolt or by a fight within the organization or-ganization We have tried the fight within and have not been very successful success-ful What will be done next year is yet to be determined I seems to me that the only way to bring about anything any-thing like harmony is for the Republican can county committee to elect for its chairman some broad guaged liberal minded Republican who has not been identified with any faction and who stands for clean methods in politics I that course is not followed something some-thing else will have to be done The meeting of the antiPlatt leaders will probably take place early this week as the Republican primaries will be held next Tuesday night I Is not believed that the leaders will decide to make much of a fight at the primaries I seems to be the intention first to appeal ap-peal to the Platt men to retire Lauer back and place at the head of tho county committee a man such as Mr 3rookfield directs I the appeal is ignored then the threat made last week by Cornelius N Bliss may be carried Into effect Mr Bliss at the time recalled re-called the Folger campaign of 1882 ahd intimated that history might repeat itself self next year if the Platt people persisted per-sisted in their present course |
