Show THE SUBLIME PORTE Armenian Revolutionists to Be Tried Without Delay WASHINGTON Sept 5The Turkish Turk-ish legation has received from the i sublime porte the following telegram I under yesterdays date I The imperial government has decided i de-cided to proceed with no delay to the trial of the Armenian revolutionists i implicated in the recent disorders of i ConstantinoPle as well as of the individuals in-dividuals who without motive had allowed al-lowed themselves to kill and plunder peaceful citizens The severest punishment punish-ment will be mulcted upon them As I however the trial of these people would be lengthy if they were to be submitted to an ordinary court an ex traorddnary court has been instituted solely fee these cases which will be tried publicly and vnth no appeal l The most part of the misdeeds committed during the recent dIsorders having I been perpetrated by individuals of different dif-ferent classes who came from abroad with seditious and criminal intend the police had received orders to expel them from the Turkish territory Queen Victoria Protests LONDON Sept 5Sdr Philip W Currie the British ambassador to Turkey who left on his return to Constantinople Con-stantinople on Monday last was directed di-rected to obtain an early audience with the sultan and to deliver to his majesty ma-jesty a message from Queen Victoria protesting against the massacres which have taken place and demanding that I stringent measures be taken to prevent i further outrages At the same time I the amlbassadrr will present to the porte a formal note from Lordr Salisbury Salis-bury of a menacing character |
