Show SECRET SOCIETIES Fraternal society work is beginning t assume a more lively aspect The heated term is now almost at a close a cose and the lodge rooms are beginning to assume their oldtime appearance in regard to the numbers in attendance The Masonic fraternity which took a recess from labor will resume its regular reg-ular meetings in about two weeks and until then nothing of interest Is expected ex-pected to occur in that order The com mandery held a meeting on Thursday evening but nothing of public concern was done I O O F The various lodges of this order held their usual meetings and transacted a fair amount of business Applications for membership were received by several anti of the lodges and a considerable amount of degree work was done The Park City lodges O the order are doing well The Patriot one of the newspapers news-papers of that city is devoting a special spec-ial department to the secret societies and in regard to the 1 O O F the last issue has the following Olive Branch No 8 had lodge NO ago a-go turnout last Thursday evening An interesting communication from faraway Wales was received showing that the children of deceased Brother Owen a former member of No8 were receiving a good education as well as being exemplary scholars in the eyes of their teachers Over these little ones the lodge has thrown its protecting arms since the fathers death Such evidence of good deeds performed by the order is always gratifying to its members Captains Vercoe and Buchanan who are organizing organ-izing the joint degree staff to go to Coalville in the near future and assist the Grand lodge officers in instituting a branch of the order at that place made known their selection of member mem-ber and the positions assigned them after which the staff was instructed in floor work at some length Tuesday Sept 8 has been selected a the date for organizing the new lodge that day oeing the most acceptable accept-able to the Coalville people Quite a number probably thirty or fort of the order are expected to gai from here The mode of conveyance has not yet been decided upon Monday evening Park City ledge No 7 was well attended and considerable time was given up to instructing the degree staff in floor work AOUW The topic whicrf fis uppermost in the discussions and councils o the A O U W order is the proposed inovaitlon of graded assessments Grand Recorder Recor-der Thcrburn gave a talk on the subject sub-ject at the meeting of Salt Lake Valley Val-ley lodge on Thursday evening at which the principles of graded assessment assess-ment and its application to the order were lucidly explained Hitherto the order ha pursued a policy of uniform assessment for life insurance irrespective of the age of its members Some jurisdictions have wished to change this and grade tea te-a according to age and the Supreme lOge rat its recent session so modified the law that each jurisdiction may adopt whichever plan it chooses Eagle Gate lodge No 10 had one of its usual interesting meetings last Wednesday night Two candidates were instructed in the mysteries of the workman degree after which the lodge took a recess to indulge in a feast of con-ferred on at least one candidate next I meeting night The order is doing a noble work attending at-tending the sick relieving the want I of the distressed and burying t I dead which work i < > being appreciated as shown by the increase of membor ship in the order Temple lodge No 15 met Monday night last with Master Workman Far rington presiding The meeting was quite interesting a several visiting brothers made eloquent talks for the good cf the order Two applications for membership were received and more are to follow which goes to show I that the order is still on the increase The nights are getting cooler now and I it is urged on the members to attend urgd meetings more regularly it is guaranteed guar-anteed they will be well paid for their trouble There will be no meeting on Monday night as that day is a holiday holi-day The funeral of Brother Walsh who was accidentally killed last Wednesday Wednes-day was held Sunday at the Catholic ws church About one hundred members f Lake and the Viola circle upon a firm foundation I foun-dation The Foresters home in the < O O F building on Market street is a delightful meeting place Regular meetings are held on Thursday even a ing of each week The Foresters have become a solid society in Utah The last issue of the Forester of America lat contains excellent photos of the offi cntns cers the several courts in Utah and presents te fine showing of the order in Utah An outing of the Salt Lake i courts will be made to some of the resorts within me next montn The National Union Salt Lake council No1 of the Na tional
