Show For twentytwo years the people of the west have been doing all in their power to have the free coinage of silver reestablished Its demonetization in 1S73 dealt a blow to the industries of the west from which they never have recovered The injuries to them I through the act of 1873 are greater and more paitent today than ever The effect of that act is plain to all the country the cause is as plain to all who care to trace it To restore silver that in its restoration might come prosperity and plenty the people have kept up an agitation They have agitated for their rights not for any ones hurt and in doing this they have asked no more than they have ever been willing to concede And after nil u these years of distress and disaster the Massachusetts Republicans have the effrontery to formally declare in convention that they regard the silver sil-ver agitation as hurtful to business and destructive of confidence Many people thought the same thing when i the American colonists were agitat ing with arms for their independence I But when their independence was gained and the country began to thrill with new life and peace prosperity and plenty were everywhere in the land all the people rejoiced So It will be when this country has free silver as the result of this agitation that the Massachusetts goldbugs deprecate and denounce |
