Show WILD AND WOOLY Cloning Scenes ofa Republican Convention CHICAGO March 27A special to the Record from Charleston W Va says I The convention of the third congressional congres-sional district of Republicans to choose delegates to St Louis was one of the most remarkable ever held in the state The factional fight among Kanawaha county Republicans culminated in the shedding of blood Eugene Dana was the only candidate that Kanawha presented T E Houston of McDowell Joint Crawford Craw-ford of Fayette J P Miller Upshur and Thomas Cooper of Mercur were the other candidates placed in nomination When the roll was called Kanawha was not ready to vote The votes recorded without Kanawha were about equally divided di-vided between Dana Houston and Crawford Craw-ford The Kanawha delegation was engaged en-gaged in a row and was unable to poll the vote Bill Gosshorn went among them to do some missionary work for Dana L E McWhorter attempted to forcibly eject him when Goshorn struck Mc Whoter and they went at each other to bate each others faces Others were drawn into the fracas and a pitched battle ensued which was witnessed by I the delegates standing upon seats and I tables The chairman rapped aid yelled for order The three sergeantatarms were powerless Finally the city police were called in and they succeeded in stopping the fight At this juncture Bill Goshorn with lacerated and bleeding face and neck made his way to the clerks desk accompanied by Obe Petty and cast 2 votes for Dana 2 for Crawford Craw-ford and 2 for Houston The president attempted to declare Crawford and Houston Hous-ton elected but the Dana men disputed the count and a pugilistic encounter over puglstc the presidents table was only prevented by timely Interference The delegates chosen favor McKInley tariff and the standard gold As the delegates were leaving the hall Colonel Dana Kanawha and Colonel J 11 W Appleton na of Monroe got into an altercation but were separated |
