Show WHY MR HOLBROOK IS OPPOSED The Provo Enquirer the leading McKinley Mc-Kinley newspaper of the state is not at all partial to Mr Holbrook congressional congres-sional candidate of the Silver Republicans Republi-cans It says the laboring men have no love for him because he beat down wages to ninety cents a day on the power plant that is being constructed in Provo canyon It further says it does rot think Mr Holbrook a fit candidate aside from his small following that he has had no legislative experience but that of mayor of the small city of Provo and he lacks in such knowledge as is essential on the part of a representative repre-sentative in Congress It declares the Republicans must have a man somewhere some-where equal in ability with Judge King in order to make a successful race against him that otherwise it would simply be a walkover for the Democratic Demo-cratic candidate with Mayor Holbrook I a candiate It then charges that the bolters have violated their agreement and that the Ogden convention will in no sense be obligated to respect the action at Salt Lake As to the charges that Mr Holbrook beat down the wages of laboring men jwe know nothing While we are of opinion opin-ion that our Provo contemporarys I criticism that he is not fitted for Congress Con-gress is correct still back of all this is i tne very patent tact that tne inquirers opposition is mainly due to the fact I that there is a nigger in the woodpile I The evidence on this point is complete Here it is Assurances have been received re-ceived that Hon John Henry Smith will allow the use of his name before the Ogden convention for congressional candidate He is still the Enquirers nominee Let oil who favor him come prepared to vote The outcome of the convention at Ogden today will be awaited with interest in-terest |
