Show LEAlVILLE I Is AT PEACE E Trouble of a Serious Nature l Liable at any Moment However NONUNION MINERS ARRIVE They Come Front the Neighborhood Neigh-borhood of Joplin Mo I Jeered By Men Women and Children Chil-dren They Are Escorted By the Slllitla to the Quarters Prepared For Then at the Dmmet Marion and Other Mines in thc Downtown Down-town District i Legal Phase of the < Trouble FORT SCOTTTKansas Sept 250ne hundred and fiftysix miners from southwest Missouri and southeast Ran I sa mines left this city yesterday for I Leadvllle Colo in charge of a representative repre-sentative of the Leadville mine owners own-ers to take the places of the striking I miners They occupied special coaches I I on the Missouri Pacific At Lendvlllc I LEADVILLE Colo Sept 25Te 150 miners from Joplin Mo arrived safely at Leadville at 5 oclock and were escorted by squads of militia to l quarters prepared for the at the Emi Em-i met Marion and adjoining mines in the downtown district Though there was some jeering by men and women in the get crowd assembled at the depot to f 1 witness the arrival of this first Install ment of nonunion miners no acts of violence were committed I 214ie camp remains a peace and a I i quiet as it a been throughout the j i three months strike The militia are entirely capable of maintaining order and they are prepared to aotpromptly I and without hesitation I WILL BE SHOOT TO KILL li the slightest demonstration indicating I indicat-ing a riot occurs T F The court of inquiry ha accomplished I I accom-plished nothing and it will probably cease its sittings shortly I The legal phase of the strike occurred I today upon a hearing before Judge Owers of the district court on the admission ad-mission to bail of the twentytwo prisoners pris-oners charged with the murder of Fireman OKeefe at the Coronado affair af-fair of Monday morning The sheriff and marshal testified that the arretits had been made upon complaints and they personally had no knowledge or evidence sufficient to hold any of the prisoners District Attorney Thomas wanted all the prisoners dismissed but this the Drsoner court declined to do The attorney for the defendants also requested a hearing I j of the merits of the cases before dismissal I dis-missal or a finding I The district attorney in the afternoon after-noon created a scene and was ordered out of the count room by the judge I I the sheriff escorting the I DISGRACED OFFICER OF TH j I COURT I from the hall Judge Owers decided that in view of the state of affairs ex I j isting here and for the reason that the defendants and he himself desired a I I thorough investigation to be made the prisoners should be released on bail I in sums of 500 and the sheriff was directed i di-rected to accompany the miners who I desired to go out and obtain sureties Although interest centered about the II court house and a great crowd saih ered during the hearing no trouble occurred I I oc-curred he militia preventing a crush of spectators in the court room In the afternoon a crowd also cath I ered about the Rio Grande depot to await the arrival of the special train i bringing in the Joplin miners The depot de-pot was surrounded by state troops and no one without a pass was cemit ted to cross the lines At 130 four carloads of the local cliti zen soldiery were sent to Malta six miles below to guard the train as it came in The train arrived at Malta I at about 4 oclock After some delay it proceeded up to I the city Along the line of the tracks in the suburbs there was no demonstration demon-stration On the arrival of the train at the Poplar street depot the miners alighted and formed on the depot platform plat-form The order to march was given and the new comers preceded by the I soldiers and flanked and backed by the guards started fo the hills Their progress was viewed by thousands thou-sands At some points on the line I demonstrations were made against them and there were jeers from the striking miners and women and children I There is a general feeling here this j afternoon that the strike is in a fairway I i fair-way to be broken I is sad that many miners who have been out will return I to work There Is a strong effort against this however from the leaders I lead-ers ersThe t The usual forebodings of trouble are heard and countless sensational rumors are continually springing up Lead I yule tonight is orderly and quiet |
