Show EXPLOSIN IN A GOAL MINE Twentyfive to Fifty Men Were Placed in Danger Dan-ger AT LEAST FIFTEEN DEAD All Hope of Rescuing the Others Abandoned Eight Men Have Been Drought to the Surface so Badly Burned as to He Past IilentiUcation Horror of the Situation Will Probably Not Be Known Until Today Evanston Wyo March 20At 545 this evening an explosion of gas occurred oc-curred in the Rocky Mountain Coal and Iron companys mine No5 at Red Canyon seven miles from Evanston with terrible results James B Bruce mine foreman and excounty commissioner of Tlintah county Wyoming was instantly killed by flying timber as were four others i all on the outside i As far as found the other dead are William Sellers jr roperunner James Clark and Edward Cox hear carpush ers The other man has not been identified All were killed by flying timber From twentyfive to fifty were in the mine at the time of the explosion at this writing they have not been rescued and are certainly dead O B Maltly Andrew mason and Jerry Crawford are badly hurt on the outside but may recover About one hundred and fifty men are employed at this mine and most had gone out Among those in the mine thought to be dead are Willard Brown John I Fearn Samuel Thomas and son old I Mr Burton Samuel Hutchinson and William Sellers sr and son I i The covering of the slop and buildings j build-ings at the mouth were blown to splinters The mine was considered one of the safest and best din d-in the state Later O B Maltby superintendent of motive power has since died also I the boy Jerry Crawford v + Eight men have been brought out 1 of the mine so burned as to be past identification with exception of me James Limb All hope of rescuing anybody any-body alive is given up The death roll now numbers fifteen I |
