Show POLITICAL The Standard and Tribune have about buried the hatchet whether in each others heads or not time alone will tell All things considered the Standard seems to have the best of the recent unpleasantness between two rival organs or-gans because it has compelled the big organ to recognize something which the Tribune has persistently refused re-fused to do for very many moons The two papers are now engaged in a little game of bluff trying to get up a scare about combines in the Democratic Demo-cratic party They forgot one thing however and that is that Democrats do not accept their allegations as being true by along a-long ways because the same rule applies in their case with Democratic readers as with their Republican patrons pa-trons in other words neither set of readers have much faith in them It is well known that fora long time Republicans have had to look to The Herald for reliable Information concerning con-cerning the movements of their awn party leaders and what was being done by the several factions In their merry war now in progress a few genuine facts have ibeen allowed al-lowed to escape which it was not the intention to make public The allegation in the Standard that the Ogden representative of the Tribune has been sounding certain Republicans on the prospects of the editorinchief of the Tribune Toeing able to secure the support of the members of the legislature from this county is to all appearance correct The Tribunes intimation that Mr Glasmann has promised everybody and everything to secure the nomination for Congress was probably a blind stagger on the part of the Tribune writer but people who know the Standard man will understand that he is capable of doing that very thing It is more than likely that the Tribune Trib-une will yet conclude to allow Mr Crane to have he Womlniation for governor There are two reasons for this One is that the big organ realizes re-alizes that he is certain to get it anyway any-way and the other Is that a settlement settle-ment of the present controversy can only be reached along this line It will be a complete surrender for the Tribune but that will be made as easy as possible for the big organ Negotiations are now pending so it is said for a treaty of peace but the terms have been dictated by the combine com-bine If tho combine would abandon Trumbo the articles would doubtless be signed at once but Trumbo will not be left out even If the peace negotiations ne-gotiations have to be broken off and the war renewedwith vigor |
