Show CHARGES AGAIXST FLINT Iostofllee Authorities Dont Thins Mueh of Them WASHINGTON Aug 2A good deal of interest was aroused at the postoflice department this afternoon by the story printed in San Francisco stating that Postal Clerk F Culver had charged Superintendent Samuel Flint of the railway mail service with being a party to extensive railway mail frauds agains the government Second Assistant Postmaster General Neilson denied positively that Flint was concerned in any frauds On tha contrary he said it was directly due to Mr Flint that an extensive ex-tensive fraud was discovered last June at the time when Culver charges hat Flint was in collusion with the railroads roads for the purpose of defrauding the government In that month the mails on the Pacific Pa-cific coast were weighed in Drder to obtain a basis for payment for carry ing them during the four years A small circular on a small route attracted at-tracted Superintendent Flints attention atten-tion and he followed it up skilfully and finally brought out the readjustment of a much larger route saving the government much money I is no doubt some confused information in regard re-gard to this that caused Culver to make the charge that he has against Mr Flint While no offil action has been taken it is thought by the officials in the postoflice department that Culver Cul-ver is almost certain to lose his head within a day or two The method of the fraud attempted last year was to divert mail matter from other routes to the one that was being weighed |
