Show HE WILL HOT CONTEST Mr Walker Has Decided to Erect a Block OLD BUILDINGS MUST GO SMITH column is SOON TO BE GREATLY IMPROVED eats ot the Steam Generating Power Pow-er ot Natural Gas Are to Be Made nt tIe Deseret Mills Great Falls Extension of The Rock Mona tnin Bell Telephone Company to Be Made Next Montli Some Local Imj > rovements Favornl > le Report Anticipaicil on the CitizcnV Electric Elec-tric Light Companys Petition Although he has not yet decided as to the details M H Walker owner of the recently condemned buildings on the northeast corner of Main and Sec end South streets formerly known as the Smith corner yesterday announced that he would not contest the decision of the board of arbitrators which on Saturday sustained the building inspector spector in the condemnation proceed ngs but on the other hand he will remove the damaged buildings and In theIr place erect s onestory brick stone and Iron structure with a frontage front-age of eightythree feet on Man street and probably eightyfive feet on Second South street The front of the new building Is to be made especially at raotive and the store rooms will be among the most desirable in the city They have already ben sp ken for and t is highly probable that all of the jresent tenants will be found back at their old stands upon the completion of the structure They have all been given notice that in all human prob ablity there will be no repairs of the present shacks and it is probable that the removal to other quarters will begin be-gin in the very near future On Saturday the decision of the board of arbitrators was given and from the time of the receipt of the notice that the Inspector had been sustained ained until late yesterday afternoon Mr Walker was considering the matter mat-ter in all of its details but not until last evening was he In a position to give out the result of his deliberations hen he announced that there would be no contest in the courts and that the corner would soon be occupied by a substantial new building Just whether or not he will make the foundation foun-dation and walls of the first story strong enough to carry five or six more stories the gentleman has not yet decided but i is highly probable that he will only put In the necessary foundation to carry the one story leaving the other improvements for the future when the requirements of the city demand that additional business busi-ness room which would be given by the erection of an up to date business block Mr Walker owns 125 feet fronton front-on Second South street and at first he did intend to make a uniform structure struc-ture for the full 83x125 fet but an examination ex-amination proved that there was none no-ne sity of interfering with the store now occupied by the Kentucky Liquor company and that part of the old building will be left in its present shape with the exception of some small repairs All of the storerooms in the new structure are to be of uniform uni-form size on the Main street side and all of the present Irregularities will thereby be remedied The present tenants of th buildings have without exception made known their willingness to return to the corner cor-ner upon the completion of the new building but as yet n contracts have been entered Into Pot the next few days architects and builders galore will be hard at work on the pla is and specifications of the structure and the construction proposed stru < ture te constrc tion is moment to commence at the earliest possible |
