| Show I THE COUNTY WILL SPRINKLE CANYON BOULEVARD TO BE WET DOW CITY WILL DO PART Resolution Unanimously Passed Refused to Advance Baileys Pay Got After Roadmaster The board of county commissioners yesterday took the initiative in the matter of sprinkling the canyon boule yard and passed a resolution providing for doingthe same on condition that the sprinkle a route through the city up to the municipal limits on the boulevard boule-vard The resolution was introduced by Adams and was passed unanimously Bids were received for doing the sprinkling but the contract was not let but will be as soon as the city has provided vided for its part of the work The bids received were J H Brown per month 60 per day 230 David Coon per month 60 Walter Lindsay per month 55 Andrew Allen per month 5 Jens B Peterson per month 3850 T B Heller per day 248 E N Williams Wil-liams per day 190 The board turned down the recommendation recom-mendation of the sheriff in regard to the pay of Deputy Bailey who has succeeded suc-ceeded to the work of exChief Deputy Belnap The sheriff recommended that Baileys pay be increased from 6 to 72 per month but th board declined to do this They fixed the pay of Vivian Hatch the new deputy at 30 per month Bailey intimated yesterday that he would decline to qualify as chief for 60 per month and hence the office maybe may-be without n chief deputy After the Short Line The board also got after the Oregon Short Line company A resolution was passed providing for notifying the road master of the Short Line that the railroad road crossings of his line in Weber county are in a deplorable condition and that he bridges are in a dangerous condition and should be repaired The appointment of V E Hatch a I deputy sheriff was confirmed and his salary llxed at 50 per month A resolution was adopted providing I for the sprinkling of the canyon road from the city limits to the lower canyon can-yon bridge on condition that the city sprinkle some suitable route to the can I yon yonJohn Wheelwright was ordered to make such alterations in the bridge I erected by him over the Hooper canal as will make the structure conform to the requirements of contract plans I The county treasurer notified the board that bond interest in the sum of 3750 was due and the amount was ordered appropriated A protest was received from J M Preshaw asking that Joseph Bailey be not confirmed as deputy sheriff The protest grows out of an accident some years ago when a child of Mr Preshaw was injured in a accident on the streetcar street-car line Mr Bailey being the motorman motor-man at the time |
