EOfAi1JAO O BAD MAN I JOHN PHILLIPS IS MORTALLY WOUNDED NEAR HAlLEY h Was Making a Gun Play When the Weapon Was Taken From Him and He Was Shot J Special to The HeraM Hailey Ida Sept 5Last Sunday night about 9 oclock at Soldier about thirty miles from this place John Phil lips was shot and mortally wounded by Joe Jones Jones and Bert Phillips a brother of the man who was shot engaged in a fist tight in which Bert Pniliips was badly worsted John Phillips then procured pro-cured a gun walked up behind Jones placed the muzzle against Jones side and fired The ball passed through Jones clothing and merely broke the skin Jones then grappled with Phillips and talcing his gun away from him fred the snot taking effect in Phillips body above the hips At last accounts Phillips was very low and the attending attend-ing doctor pronounces the wound fatal Jone is under arrest but the opinion opin-ion of those who witnessed the affair is that the shooting was justifiable This is the John Phillips who four years ago shot and seriously wounded W Y Perkins in a fight at Soldier He has always been considered a tough citizen I
