chainless uheels V V a < V JI I in 198 listed at 125 and Its small sale was attributed in a measure to Ute high list price It was anticipated th1 with a lower list the clancs would sell real but this expectation has not been realized There Is little question but that the bet chalpless wheels are durable and sellceable but there Is a feeling among the buyers that there is more f1icton and loss of power In Jearin than In chan poer transmission and that as a consequence the chainless wheels do not propel as easily as a properly constructd chan wheel Another objectIon to the chainless wheels and one not easily overcome Is Ut very noticeable difference in weights between chain wheels and chalnles models The chnnless wheels of IS99 weigh from twentyeight to thirtyone pounds while the latest chain wheels can be had at weights running from twent3 to twentyfour I pounds EXleriened rider know that a twentytwupound bicycle will run very much easier than a twentyelgct 110und wheel and it is questonable if la chalnles can ever be built to vemga less than twentrfve or twentysix pounds and have sufficient rigidity In the frame to stand hard riding The advent of good neat and ser Ieeahlc gear cases for chain wheels is also doing very much to SOIY lh I 11roblem which chainless wheels have attempted to fgure out The one great objection to a chan wheel has been the I trouble with dirty chains but if the chain can be enclosed In a practical thorough manlier the advantage which I a chaindrhen wheel las over a chain I less model in the mater of weight al economical power transmission wi enable en-able i to maintain its lead in the bid for nubIe favor One manufacturer of a very popular make of wheel represented In Sal Lake City has produced a chain wheel with the chain and sprockets eitirl3 enclosed en-closed in al extremely neat dustprof gear case and the whole wheel ih case weIghs less than twent ole pounds The chain runs through small rubber tubes and is perfectly lolseiss The unprecedented sale of wheels in this city still continues and one firm has sold Oer 300 wheels In the past I six wees I the weather and demand continue the estimate of a sate of 1000 I
