Show DISTRESSING ACCIDENT Little Ernest Eomney Ru Over and Severely Injured Ernest Lowell Romney aged 4 years son of Mr and r G ERomney 59 Third street was run over by a vehicle ve-hicle yesterday morning sustaining a fracture of the left limb The brutal part of the affair was that the driver who is at present unknown did not have the humanity t stop and look into the childs condition but drove on rapidly rap-idly to escape identification I was rees time 11 a m at the Lowell school and the children er playing in the road between Romneys playng residence and the school building The Romney child is not a pupil but was out playing with them when a man and a boy came down the road driving a onehorse cart on the run One of the SLhool boys says he tried to pull the Romney child out of the way but failed to do it in time and the wheels of the vehicle passed over his limbs I appealed ap-pealed that he was knocked down either by the shaft or horse The observers called for the driver to stop and it is said he slowed up for 3 moment and sewing that he had injured the child I put the whip to his horse and drove off oil a run Arthur Westerman of 443 Third North who was delivering lumber for Morrison Merrill Co saw the accident and carried te child into the house Dr Bower was called in and pronounced the injury a fracture frac-ture of the left leg at the hip The Mt tIe fellows suffering wa quit pitiful I at first but his condition was rendered more comfortable later The matter was referred to the police I department but a careful investigation investiga-tion failed to locate the driver |
