Show I MIS A DIFFERENT STORY MBS GHXFFITHS SAYS HER HUSBAND i HUS-BAND BEATS HER I Her Condition Corroborates Her Story Told t Deputy Sheriff John Montgomery A few days ago William S Griffiths entered in the district court Q sit for divorce from Mary S Griffiths alleging habitual drunkenness and cruelty He said that lr Griffiths attacked him with an ax and a gun and chased him out of the house compelling him to flee for his lfe Deputy Sheriff John Montgomery Mont-gomery served the summons on r Griffiths and as far a he could judge from what he saw and from the statement state-ment of the lady he says a very different differ-ent state of facts exist from those set out in the complaint Mrs Griffiths is a woman 67 years ot age and decrepit The officer found her in a deplorable condition covered with wounds and bruises face frightfully discolored and one o her arms crippled crip-pled black and bruised ShE told Mr Montgomery that her condition was the result of repeated beatings administered by her husband a strong burly fellow of 45 or 50 years of age She owns a little property from which she derives a small monthly rental and because she wont turn over to him the pittance the says he beats her and the neighbors neigh-bors corroborate the story She says she has no money to defend the divorce suit which she claims her husband has wrought solely for the purpose of get hug hold of what little property she has The parties reside in the neigh jorhocd of the Rapid Transit powerhouse power-house I |
