Show THE CEOIE LEAVES Hundreds of People Saw the Singers S Off They Will Be IVnrmly Welcomed at Every Stopping PlaceSomething About the TrainNotes The great tabernacle choir left yesterday yester-day afternoon on their trip to the Worlds fair f I was the largest excursion party that ever left the territory Every section sec-tion in the sleepers was filled and every chair in the chair car was occupied I was a great train and it will advertise Utah in a manner such as has never been done before and will open the eyes of the eastern people in more ways than one They will be more than surprised when they see the wide awake intelligent set of people who compose the great choir a well as those who accompany them That they will be warmly welcomed at all the stops en route is shown by the following follow-ing telegram received yesterday by President Presi-dent Hubbard of the chamber of commerce com-merce ST Louis Aug 2 W E Hubbard president chamber of commerce com-merce We will be happy to welcome the Mormon tabernacle choir at the Merchants exchange at 1130 a I on Saturday Arrange with them to arrive by that train as the exchange closes at 12 oclock noon noonW T ANDERSO President I was 310 when the train pulled out irom the Union Pacific station There were perhaps 3000 people at the station to say good by and to wish the party a pleasant and happy trip The train consisted of eleven cars viz S baggage car chair car and nine Pull man cars including the special Pullman car Pickwick which latter was occupied occu-pied by the first presidency of the church The otner Pullmans were the Charmoni Lubeck Messina Ogallaila Kearney Northwest Evanston and Kit Carson The two first mentioned were brand neW and this was their first trip They are finished in mahogany upholstered in old gold and gray hair cloth are modeled on a new pattern in that there are no side aisles and are the handsomest cars ever seen in this part of the country The others were the modern Pullmans The Pulmans entire train was vestibuled throughout and lighted with Pintsoh gas Pullman conductor Charley Grafton was in charge of the cars The train was drawn by engine 8 one of the fastest runners on the Union Pacific Pa-cific system with the veteran engineer John Foster at the throttle and John Redman Red-man as fireman Charley Hilton had charge of the train as conductor while General Agent Burley accompanied the party to see that no one should want for anything on the trip The train will run special clear through to Chicago and the Union Pacific people intend to give the party an exhibition of what a firstclass railroad can do in the way of rapid running The train is scheduled to reach Denver in twenty three hours but a lay off of one hour at Ogden to charge the gas tanks of the Pullmans and another hour this morning at Laramie for breakfast will make the actual time only twentyone hours The run from here to Ogden was made in fifty minutes All the members of the choir are provided pro-vided with badges bearing cuts of the temple and the tabernacle and the words Mormon Tabernacle Choir the title by which the organization is most familiarly famil-iarly known to the outside world Representatives of the Salt Lake newspapers news-papers accompanying the party and the HERALD will keep the people at home advised regarding the party during their absence The first concert will be given at Denver Den-ver tonight and the placard Standing Stand-ing Room Only has been suspended In front of the box office for several days |
