| Show A Movement to Bear the Spanish Bourse BARCELONA Aug 3Great excitement was caused in this city last night by what was for a timo believed to bo a revolutionary revolution-ary movement on the part of the Republican can party but which subsequently proved to be a desperate attempt upon the part of certain speculators on tho bourse to bring about a decline in the price of securities dealt in upon the exchange For foolhardy daring the scheme has never been equalled by speculators in this or any other I country A band of fifteen men armed with I j rifles and revolvers cautiously approached 1 tho building and attempted t surprise the guards it being their intention to force I their way into the barracks The sentries discovered theapproach of tho men whom I they ordered to halt The men made a I rush upon the sentries trusting in the confusion con-fusion which would follow that they could I force their way to the barracks As they ran towards the sentries they delivered a I volley from their mcapons and some ot the guards fell to the mound wounded Tho other sentries however answered the volley vol-ley with a fusillade from their rifles For a short time a regular battle was fought and a number on both sides were wounded In the meantime tho officers stationed at the barracks summoned the troops to arms I and in a very short tIme the attacking I I party was surrounded Resistance a useless and the whole party was placed under arrest They will bs tried by court martial and the chances are they will a I be shot The persons arrested arc Federal Republicans Repub-licans Ilians Aug 3 Sefior Zorilla a Spanish Republican in an interview today denied he is in any way implicated in the Barce baa affair Ho said he would do nothing without the certainty of success The latest report from Barcelona justi fibs tho belief tho affair was a genuine revolutionary re-volutionary attempt on the part of the Republicans |
