Show THE UNIVERSITY LANDS The Commissioners May Now Sell Forty five Thousand Acres Acting Land Commissioner Rose has sent to Governor Thomas a certified transcript tran-script of clear list No1 of lands selected for the territory of Utah in part satisfaction satisfac-tion of the grant of two townships for the establishment of a university by act of Congress approved Feb 21 1855 Following is the letter SlrI hove the honor to transmit herewith a certified transcript of clear list No1 of lands selected for the territory of Utah in part sat isfaction of the grant of two townships for the establishment of a university by the act of Congress approved Feb 21 1855 10 U S stat Oil Said list embraces tracts of an aggregate area 4083005 acres and was approved March 6 1253 The university land commissioners will now be able to sell this land under the act of the last legislature This land principally lies in Sanpete Sevier and Juab with smaller bodies in Salt Lake Cache Utah and Pluto counties The law provides that the minimum price per acre shall be 250 Some of the land partially worthless lies alongside of government gov-ernment land which can be purchased for 125 per acre butif only the minimum price is received for the aggregate acreage it will result jp a handsome sum being turned into the treasury of the university A great deal in fact a larger portion of the land is very good which will command com-mand a much higher price than the min imum The disposal of the property is entirely in the hands of the commissioners who appraise the value of each property The law provides none shall be sold at private sale until they have been offered publicly and that due notice of sale shall be made through the newspapers |
