Show TIE HOUSE The Quarantine Bill Is Passed by an Overwhelming Vote WASHINGTON Jan 23The House continued consideration of the quarantine bill and adopted an amendment by Mr Warner of New York extending quarantine quaran-tine to land boundaries The amendment prohibiting interference with migration between the states was rejected There were a number of little conflicts between the advocates and opponents of the quarantine quar-antine bill which were finally settled amicably and a motion to recommit the bill was lost97 to 157 The bill was I then put upon its passage and passed 138 to 29 The New York and New Jersey bridge bill was then called up but the Pennsylvania Pennsyl-vania delegation compelled its withdrawal with-drawal by filibustering tactics The House then went into committee of the whole and proceeded to consideration of the sundry civil bill Without disposing dispos-ing of the bill the committee arose and the House adjourned TO ADMIT TIE TERRITORIES A Republican Can us to Consider the Question to lA Hold Today WASHINGTON Jan 23 Special Senator Fred Duboia of Idaho proposes bringing the territories question to an issue is-sue The senator believes that the four terrritories of Utah New Mexico Arizona and Oklahoma should be admitted as states and in pursuance of this belief he circulated a call today for a Republican senatorial caucus to be held tomorrow after adjournment He first consulted with Mr Platt the chairman lr of the Senate territories committee and that gentleman heartily approved the suggestion sug-gestion Mr Dubois also spoke with a number of other Republican senators who in the past have been rather inimical to the statehood idea and found that they too were perfectly willing to caucus upon the subject with every indication that they would not oppose the proposition either to admit the territories singy or in an omnibus bill |
